This month’s navaid is actually a decommissioned VOR.

Like some others in the United States that have met the same fate, it is still in use for its DME function,
with the same name and frequency that it had in its VOR days.

It’s located at an airport which had airline service into the 1960s.

It also is the site of a collision of an airliner and a General Aviation aircraft, where a
Dispatcher in the jumpseat of the airliner saw the other aircraft and alerted his crew to it,
possibly averting an even worse accident.

It’s not far from the highest point in the state.

Some of the first jazz music recordings were made in this city.
This former VOR is named after the airport and city, but it also shares its name with another,
much bigger city’s VOR, which is also located at airport, and named after that city.

And there is only one letter difference in the identifier!

This month's navaid is at an airport, but has a different name and
identifier than that airport.

Its name is a type of tree in the region.

It sounds like an island country.

It's the starting point of a Q route.

This Navaid was decommissioned two years ago, but retains its DME function.
It has a professional sports team's name.
It's located at an airport, but does not share that airport's identifier.
There IS a VOR with the same identifier as the airport, but, oddly, it's located 8.5 miles away.

This Navaid is in the United States, and is named after the nearby city, which itself is named after a geological feature,
which itself is named after Native Americans!

Its identifier is the same as the airport, which is 4.4 miles away, and served by several airlines.

The airport is also an Air National Guard base.

This Navaid is located at a U.S. airport with no passenger airline service.
It's got a different name and identifier than that airport, and its name is the same as the original civilian air freight operator there.
